This is where you’ll find some of my favorite recipes, and recipes that I’ve tried and liked, and think you should probably try too. There is no rhyme or reason or theme to the recipes that I post. Some will be healthy, some will be sweet, some will make your jeans cry, but mostly they’ll all be tasty.
One thing will become apparent – I love to feed people. That probably comes from my Gram. Gram’s house was known for its snack drawer (think Scooby Doo gummy snacks and all the naughty foods your parents wouldn’t buy for you), and everyone in 5 square miles knew that drawer and the precious contents that lie within. Anyone, at any time, could show up for dinner at Gram’s and know they were getting a meal that would fill them up, and probably stick to their ribs (and hips). Gram Pam was a down-home cook, and when I need some love I turn to her recipes. Be on the lookout, I think these will quickly become your favorites too.
These recipes are currently captured in one of my most prized possessions – the cookbook my cousin Lori hand-wrote. The contents of this cookbook are not simply recipes, but also cooking tips and stories to match (featured is Gram’s taco salad recipe that doubled as our traditional Christmas Eve dinner… yeah, we’re not sure that’s what Jesus had in mind, but it’s delicious and we’re going with it). Not only is it Lori’s cookbook, but it was also my Gram’s copy. It still has ripped out magazine pages with recipes that she liked. Yeah, I think I’ll keep it just the way it is.
Lastly, a piece of cooking advice that missed the publisher’s cut, comes from my daddy and is probably the worst piece of advice one could bestow on another person. So, naturally I am going to share it with you. I hope you use it, laugh at the aftermath, but mostly remember –
“Cowards cook on low.”
(Cue high heat and essence of burning food.)
Happy cooking friends, stay hot.
